“All heroes don’t wear a cape” The statement is as true for Jim Corbett as for any other person. Jim Corbett Museum is a part of a great legacy. This point should be a landmark point on your visit to Corbett National Park.
Jim used to spend his summer spent his summers here. The other house being in Nainital, Gurney House which is managed by private owners.
“He used to wonder around in the forests here, spending nights out camping, learning the ways of nature. He has mapped out the place accurately if you were to go out in the wild, you can reach exactly to the tree where he intended you to go” said our guide to the museum.
The place is filled with statues, portraits, and personal belonging of Corbett. I have been to the site earlier when I was a child. I have little memories from that period. It was when I had gone through the literature of Jim Corbett. The place had much more meaning for me. A guide from who showed us around the museum and took us for a heritage walk in Carpet sahib’s village did help.
The grave of Robbin (Jim’s dog) and the traveling cart of Maggie (Jim’s sister), a board with all the names of all man-eaters of Uttarakhand. The antidotes from the village about the great man.
There is also a small shop selling souvenirs of Jim Corbett. You can buy t-shirts with tiger footprints, cap, bags, a portrait of Jim Corbett, home made jams and various other unique stuff from here.
