Jageshwar Distance Chart

Jageshwar is situated at a distance of 30 km from Almora. Jageshwar is a Pilgrimage and a historical town. The tall and flourishing green Deodar tree surrounds the town. First of all Jageshwar is also known for its archeological pleasure. Some of the places which will be a part of your Jageshwar tour. The Nagraja style architecture temple is devoted to lord Shiva. The main temple of Jageshwar is dedicated to Baal (child) Shiva and another temple dedicated to Vriddha (old) Shiva. The Vriddha Jageshwar is situated 15 km from the main temple.

Furthermore the campus also contains other temples that are devoted to Jageshwar Mahadev, Dandeshwar, Mrityunjay Mahadev, Nav-Grahas (9nine planet), Kuber and Surya Temple. Dandeshwar is the biggest and Mrityunjay is the oldest temple among all the temples. Most of all Jageshwar has around 124 large and small temples that were built during a span of 1000 years from 8th to 18th century AD. The temple wall and pillars contain many cipher inscriptions that date back to the 7th century AD.

In addition to this it is believed that the sage, Adi Shankaracharya, visited Jageshwar. However it is supposed to have renovated and re-established many temples before leaving for. While it is also believed that Nageshwar temple of Jageshwar is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The pilgrimage to Jageshwar is considered as holy as Badrinath and Kedarnath.

The town also has a museum maintained by ASI and has interestingly display of sculptures and idols. Decipher the twenty five inscriptions on the walls and pillars of the temples that date back to the 17th century AD. While over hundred sculptures in the temple are also under the Archaeological survey of India (ASI).

How to reach:

By Air: Pantnagar is the nearest airport to reach Jageshwar which is 180km away from the exact location.

Via Rail: Kathgodam is the nearest railway station, 120 km.

By Road: 120 km from Kathgodam, nearest railway station and 90 km from Nainital. One can take route: “Kathgodam-Bhimtal-Bhowali-Ranikhet-Almora” to make a good circuit.
